Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer was recently quoted as saying he would never step foot into Paul Brown Stadium again, even though hes still under contract. Thats a pretty gutsy move for a pro-football player, who can risk losing millions. How can he afford to do it without losing the shirt off of his back?

Unlike the pro athletes who have squandered their money, Palmer has managed his money well. According to ESPN, he recently told a confidant, I have $80 million in the bank. I dont have to play football for money. Ill play it for the love of the game, but that would have to be elsewhere. Im prepared to live my life.

How many workers across the U.S. share Palmers sentiment of discontent? Palmer is a lucky one, with an alleged $80 million in the bank. Recent reports show that the savings rate of Americans is hovering just over 5 percent. If you’re fortunate enough to be employed in today’s tight job market and your household income matches the US median of $49,777, you’re saving less than $2,000 a year.

In times of uncertain financial security, you want to save as much money as possible and be able to rely on your credit when you need it most. A good first step is to check all three of your credit scores. Your credit scores are important numbers which, if in the high 700s or better, can help you qualify for the best rates on credit cards and loans, saving you money so you can invest in your future instead of being overburdened with interest payments. And if you’re looking for work, bear in mind that many employers check the credit scores of job applicants to gain insight into their character and judgment.

At you can get all three of your credit scores as well as 24/7 credit monitoring and automatic alerts that help guard you against fraud and errors that could cost you dearly.  With the economic downturn, FreeScores Power of 3 is more valuable than ever.

What do you think about Carson Palmer walking away from the Bengals? Do you know anyone who would you be able to pull off the same thing at their job?
